Chances are you’ve had very few places to go lately, but as life slowly starts to return to normal, now is the perfect time to learn how you can effectively clean and sanitize your car from harmful contaminants. Continue reading to learn more.

How to Sanitize Your Car

Bench the Bleach

While bleach products and disposable paper towels are the primary go-to for disinfecting most household surfaces, using these in your car will cause irreparable damage — especially on organic surfaces such as leather.

So leave the bleach at home and instead find some isopropyl alcohol. Car manufacturers and assembly plants use a concentration of at least 70% to destroy any potential contaminants that could be transferred to you or your passengers. Spray the solution on commonly used surfaces and wipe it off using a soft, clean terry cloth.

Pull Out the Shop Vac

Vacuuming out your car will not effectively remove all traces of a virus or germs but it will drastically improve the breathing quality of the air in your car. Over time, particles of dust, pollen, and even salt from winter roads can build up giving your car a musty smell and causing allergens and irritants to be stirred up as you enter and exit your car.

Remove the floor mats, shake them out, and lay them in the sun as you thoroughly vacuum the upholstery and floor of your car. Pay special attention to nooks and crannies where dirt and grime can hide. Wear a mask to avoid inhaling the dust and dirt as you clean.

Don’t Forget the Air Filters

Speaking of air quality, don’t forget to check your air filters. Over time, these filters can get clogged with dirt, dust, and debris which makes it difficult to filter out pollen and other allergens. This means the breathing quality of the air circulating through your cabin could be doing more harm than you know.

If you are unsure of how to find, clean, or replace your air filters, you can refer to your owners manual or contact one of the qualified technicians at our service center. We’ll have you breathing free and clear in no time.
